Only my MP3s, pics, videos and most saved files were backed in utility. Spent hours re-downloading games for new PS3. I had a problem with this when I first switched hard drives. However, I found that after re-installing all of my back up data you need to go back in to account management and under activate system will be an option to activate a ps3 or a psp. I have never had a problem since then with any back ups. I have backed up and moved save states around on two systems both tied to my account and never had a problem.
I do not own a slim so I'm not sure if they changed something in the process there, but you know Sony always changing things around to suit themselves not the end user. I agree that saves should be linked with the PSN ID most are now , but for what isn't linked right now I am indifferent. If you happen to have one of the mentioned games and don't like your saves being locked, than complain to the developers on their forums or through email petitions to patch it, don't complain on some worthless blog that the devs most likely aren't going to bother to read.
Have to disagree with you there on a few points. That is unacceptable when they just have to lock the save to your ID itself and that would solve the problem. Yes, your trophies are all nice and safe in the servers; however, to get back to where you were before so you can finish getting those trophies, you have to start from scratch. This wasn't so much of a problem earlier in the lifespan of the console when there were not as many failures or people having to upgrade to another console for whatever reason.
While the blogs aren't necessarily somewhere the developers hang out and read This allows a larger majority of gamers to get together and possibly organize a group that can then go to the actual developer website, etc A larger group of paying voices has a larger impact than one or two starting a conversation on the developer's website. I do this that in this case it's because it was patched Wayyy after for trophy support that they locked the saves Unas Like I said I'm indifferent.
I respect your opinion though. Was I pissed? Hell, yes. It was at least to hours of work gone. Did I go back and try again? I've seen the ending s. I set some nice personal time records. I had fun. Same thing with my lost Motorstorm save or having to restart GTA4 after getting right up to the final mission and restarting because of the trophy patch.
When there is nothing more to gain from the save, it looses importance in keeping it around. Now for something your working on and haven't completed I can see being more of an issue and having more value to justify a backup. But again, worst case scenario if you loose the save and are forced to play again do you think with the knowledge you now have you'd do better and get back to where you were faster? If that was so, wouldn't you be better off?
After having to restart many games in the past for a variety of reasons I've become more of an optimist when it comes to loosing a save. I look at the "greener side" of having to replay a game. Thx in advanced. I personally have no problem with companies locking the game saves as long as they are movable from one console to the other.
There is no reason they should be locked to a particular console. It is frustrating to play a game for so long and and before you get to finish the game completely for a platinum I understand the need to protect the integrity of "gaming" per se by keeping the saves locked to one user; but this carries it to an unnecessary level and punishes the ones who actually have played the game legitimately to get to the level they are.
While I find it fine that you are only allowed to activate one PS3 for your video downloads, it is assinine that if your PS3 dies for whatever reason The only way to get the Video deactivated on the old PS3 is to send it in to Sony to repair and then they will generously deactivate the Video on your account so you can use it on your current PS3.
This truly is a scam. If your PS3 croaks and you have already bought a new one, you should be able to deactivate the video on the old console that no longer works and move it to the new console without having to pay Sony bucks to do essentially do it.
Sony's response is that the only other thing you can do is create another account on the new PS3 to buy videos. How many friggin' accounts do i have to have.
Guess it is a win win situation for Sony Finally, someone wrote an article about this locked saved games because it's one of the worst kept secret about PS3 until the gamer found out later. It's one of the more common question asked in PS3 forums and even today, many PS3 owners still think all saved games can be copied to another PS3.
Even backing up the entire hard drive for a few saved games isn't the answer because the entire backup must be restored to get a few saved games back. Has anyone ever timed how long it takes to backup GB of data from GB hard drive?
Over 5 hours. There has been more PS3 games that came out since last year that have more locked saved games. Capcom and EA are the worst two game publishers that have locked saved games.
Another reason to backup saved games is to have save multiple paths in the game progress if the game only allow one saved game. There are games that make you choose different path in the story. Sometimes, I would restore an older saved game to play a different path in the story after completed the other path in the story.
If the saved game is locked, the only to do this is delete the previous saved game in the story path and start the game from the beginning. Someone said X games don't have any locked saved games. There are a few games that locked the saved games but fortunately, very few. At least on X, it's possible to get around the locked saved game to the hard drive by saving the saved game to the external memory card. Locked saved game has nothing to do with which console is better, simply the stupidity of the game publishers enforcing it to be difficult for the gamer.
Can someone who owns the game confirm it? I'm planning to buy the game but locked saved game will be the main factor in deciding to buy either PS3 or X version. I know PS3 version has exclusive Joker challenge.
