I have previously checked all disabled devices and tried each one as the default device to see whether that would made any difference. In response to your questions numbering tracks your numbering : 1 I do not have any third party software specifically for sound other than the drivers recommended by the motherboard manufacturer.

I will try this in the next couple of days need to find some time to go through the process of a clean install. Since that time and since going through the steps outlined in my prior e-mail I have not hooked the system up to external speakers again, but I will do this and report back.

In reply to Chinamonk's post on September 21, It took me awhile to reinstall Vista, but even if the HDMI device is selected as the default device before installing third party applications, the Vista system sounds still do not work.

The system works fine with external speakers in analogue. With the new install of Vista without installing any third party applications , I have also run some tests on the sound using software packages built into Vista. This is exactly the behavior that I was getting with iTunes. James R P.

Click once on the speaker picture,Now choose the option configure in the bottom left of window pane,then from the options pick quadraphonic,then click next and make sure that the options front left and right and surround speakers are checked,then click next and finish.

In Vista, it appears both in the Playback and so I can hear what the Turntable is doing? When the record is playing, the little green meter is flickering just sound of my ASUS motherboard.
